The verse highlights how a dynastic struggle expands into a pan-regional war: entire peoples become implicated through allegiance and political obligation. Ethically, it points to the far-reaching social cost of adharma-driven conflict—its burden is not confined to the principal antagonists.
Sañjaya is reporting to Dhṛtarāṣṭra the composition and placement of forces, listing various regional contingents and noting that many of these warriors were positioned in the rear (pṛṣṭhabhāga) of the formation.
