Related Themes: Agni Purana 379.58-60 (answer via elephant/above-below illustration)
This verse frames a nitishastra/rajadharma inquiry: it asks for the criterion to identify the legitimate ruler (naradhipa) versus the ordinary person, relying on Brahminical expertise rather than a ritual procedure.
By shifting from purely mythic narration to practical socio-political categorization, it exemplifies how the Agni Purana functions as a compendium—covering governance, social norms, and dharma alongside ritual and theology.
Seeking correct identification of authority through dharmic counsel supports righteous order (dharma-samsthapanam); acting under proper guidance is treated as merit-bearing, while confusion about roles can lead to adharma and its karmic consequences.
