FAQs

This verse initiates the vidyā of Purāṇic vaṃśānucarita—systematic dynastic genealogy—by framing the coming account of Solar and Lunar royal lineages and anchoring them in a cosmological origin (Hari → Brahmā → Marīci).

It shows the text’s catalog-like structure: after a chapter on dāna (charitable merit), it pivots to historical-genealogical material (dynasties of kings), demonstrating the Agni Purāṇa’s breadth across dharma topics and Purāṇic historiography.

By linking royal lineages to a divine-cosmic source (Hari and Brahmā), the verse sacralizes history: remembering dynastic origins is presented as participation in dharmic memory and reverence for the divinely ordered cosmos.
