FAQs

It specifies a graded śrāddha schedule: at the twelfth observance (dvādaśaka) the rite is to be performed with additional elements, and after completion of one year the full, rule-complete annual śrāddha (saṃvatsarika) should be performed.

Beyond theology, the Agni Purāṇa codifies practical dharma procedures—here, the timing and escalation of ancestral rites—showing its role as a manual for ritual law and household religious practice.

Performing the prescribed incremental and annual śrāddhas is taught as a duty that supports the Pitṛs through offerings and sustains family dharma, generating merit (puṇya) and aiding purification through correct rite-performance.
