Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Vrata","secondary_vidya":"Jyotisha","practical_application":"Choose deity-specific purifying tithis for pavitrārohaṇa/observances: Śaiva and Brāhma rites begin from Dvitīyā onward; align one’s observance with iṣṭa-devatā and prescribed lunar day.","sutra_style":true}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Rule","entry_title":"Devatā-bhakti and Tithi: Dvitīyā-krama for Śiva/Brahmā; Iṣṭa-devatā Tithi Principle","lookup_keywords":["Śiva","Brahmā","Dvitīyā","tithi","pavitrā"],"quick_summary":"States a tithi-allocation rule: Śiva and Brahmā observances follow a sequence starting from the second lunar day; for any deity, the devotee’s corresponding tithi is considered purifying."}

Concept: Adhikāra-by-devotion: ritual timing and purity are individualized by iṣṭa-devatā-bhakti within a shared calendrical order.

Application: When multiple traditions coexist (Śaiva, Brāhma, Vaiṣṇava), use the rule to avoid conflict: keep the rite but shift tithi according to deity and lineage practice.

Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Vrata & Tithi-nirnaya / Devata-specific observances)

Primary Rasa: shanta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A priest or teacher indicating a lunar calendar: Dvitīyā highlighted for Śiva and Brahmā; devotees of different deities stand with their respective symbols, each assigned a purifying tithi.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, stylized calendar wheel with tithis, Śiva and Brahmā icons near Dvitīyā, devotees in añjali, temple backdrop, didactic yet sacred mood.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore, ornate depiction of Śiva and Brahmā in small medallions, gold-highlighted calendar scroll showing Dvitīyā onward, devotees holding offerings, rich temple setting.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore instructional painting, clear pañcāṅga chart, arrows from deities to their tithis, priest explaining, minimal background for clarity.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, scholar with manuscript and calendar board, groups of devotees with distinct deity emblems, refined linework and muted palette emphasizing the rule."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"instructional","suggested_raga":"Shankarabharanam","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"instructional"}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: ब्रह्मणस्तद्वत् = ब्रह्मणः + तद्वत्; तद्वद्द्वितीयादितिथेः = तद्वत् + द्वितीयादितिथेः.

FAQs

It teaches tithi-based ritual sequencing (tithi-krama): for certain deities such as Śiva and Brahmā, observances are arranged starting from the second lunar day onward, and a devotee should prioritize the tithi associated with their chosen deity.

By codifying calendrical practice (lunar tithis) and linking it with deity-specific worship, it functions like a practical ritual manual—one of the Agni Purana’s hallmark encyclopedic domains alongside law, polity, medicine, and arts.

It states that the properly observed, deity-aligned tithi is inherently purifying for the devotee, implying increased ritual efficacy and spiritual merit when devotion and timing are harmonized.
