īśvara uvāca | śṛṇu devi pravakṣyāmi māhātmyaṃ pāpanārānam | gaurīśvarasya devasya sarvakāmapradasya vai
Īśvara (Śiva)
Tirtha: Gaurīśvara
Type: temple
Listener: Devī (Gaurī/Pārvatī)
Scene: Śiva begins his exposition to Devī: a teaching posture, right hand in vyākhyāna-mudrā; behind them, a liṅga shrine and the grove of tapas, suggesting imminent revelation of place and benefits.
Hearing and knowing a deity’s māhātmya is itself a dharmic act, revealing sin-destroying and wish-fulfilling power associated with sacred worship.
Gaurīśvara—presented as a wish-fulfilling Śaiva sacred presence within Prabhāsa Kṣetra.
Śravaṇa (listening) to the māhātmya as Śiva begins to teach; implicitly, worship of Gaurīśvara.
