taṃ dṛṣṭvā mānavo devi mucyate paṃcapātakaiḥ | sārddhadvādaśahastaṃ tu yojanatritayena tu | na paśyaṃti mahādevi pāpiṣṭhā ye tu mānavāḥ
Īśvara (Śiva)
Tirtha: Chāyāliṅga
Type: kshetra
Listener: Mahādevī (Pārvatī)
Scene: A large, radiant liṅga stands in open view, yet a few darkened figures pass without seeing it; a devotee with folded hands beholds it and is bathed in light. A subtle measure motif (twelve-and-a-half hastas) is hinted by a staff/scale; the horizon suggests ‘three yojanas’ visibility.
Darśana of the sacred purifies profoundly, but moral and spiritual impurity is portrayed as a veil that prevents true perception.
The Chāyāliṅga of Prabhāsakṣetra.
Darśana (beholding) of the liṅga is emphasized as the act yielding liberation from pañcapātaka.
