प्रतिग्रहसमर्थानां निवृत्तानां प्रतिग्रहात् । य एव ददतां लोकास्त एवाप्रतिगृह्णताम्
pratigrahasamarthānāṃ nivṛttānāṃ pratigrahāt | ya eva dadatāṃ lokāsta evāpratigṛhṇatām
أمّا الذين يحقّ لهم قبول العطايا ثم يمتنعون عن القبول، فإن العوالم السماوية التي ينالها المُعطون ينالها كذلك الذين لا يأخذون.
Unspecified (continuation of Jamadagni’s teaching in the same sequence)
Tirtha: Prabhāsa-kṣetra
Type: kshetra
Listener: Sages/pilgrims (contextual)
Scene: Two parallel vignettes: a householder offers charity with humility; a self-controlled sage, though entitled, declines with serene smile. Above, symbolic ‘heavenly worlds’ appear equally over both.
Renunciation of receiving can equal the merit of giving, when done by one who is eligible to accept.
The verse is embedded in Prabhāsa-kṣetra māhātmya, aligning tīrtha-visit with purity, restraint, and merit.
It concerns the dharma of dāna (giving) and pratigraha/apratigraha (accepting or refusing gifts).
