yatiścetprārthayellobhāddīyamānaṃ pratigraham | na tasya deyaṃ vidvadbhirna lobhaḥ śasyate yateḥ
إذا كان الزاهد، بدافع الطمع، يطلب العطية المعروضة للتقديم، فلا ينبغي للحكماء أن يعطوه؛ فإن الطمع لا يُمدَح قطّ في الزاهد.
Skanda (deduced from Prabhāsa-kṣetra Māhātmya didactic narration context)
Tirtha: Prabhāsa-kṣetra
Type: kshetra
Scene: A greedy ascetic reaches out insistently for a gift; a wise donor gently withdraws and instead offers to a serene, self-controlled mendicant or to a feeding hall, illustrating pātra-vicāra.
Renunciation is incompatible with greed; discernment is required in giving.
Prabhāsa-kṣetra provides the sacred setting; the verse teaches standards for righteous giving within that pilgrimage ethos.
A dāna restriction: do not give to an ascetic who begs out of greed.
