It teaches that bhasma is not ordinary ash but a sanctified Shaiva sacrament; handling it with purity and reverence cultivates devotion, discipline, and the attitude that all worship belongs to Pati (Shiva).
Bhasma is closely tied to Saguna Shiva worship through Tripuṇḍra and temple/household observances; respecting it as sacred supports proper external worship that steadies the mind for inner contemplation of Shiva.
Keep vibhuti in a clean, auspicious place and apply it respectfully (e.g., Tripuṇḍra) during Shiva worship; avoid careless handling, giving it to the unfit, or placing it on impure ground.
