rāmaḥ kṛtātmā bhavatā śīghram ānīyatām iti ||22||
ثم قال الملكُ المتلألئ لسومانترَ: «أحضِر إليّ سريعًا راما، المتحكّم في نفسه».
Thereafter the glorious king said to Sumantra, Bring immediately the selfpossessed Rama.
Rightful authority issues clear, timely commands; the ideal prince is described first by inner self-mastery (kṛtātmā) before outer action.
Meditation on ‘kṛtātmā Rāma’ as an ideal of self-governance; inspires sādhaka to cultivate composure before responding to life’s summons.
‘Kṛtātmā’ points to mastery of mind and senses—an inner kingship; the outer king calls the inner-kingly son, suggesting harmony of rāja-dharma and ātma-saṃyama.
The epithet kṛtātmā resonates with Upaniṣadic ideals of jitendriya/ātmavit—one who has ‘made’ or mastered the self.
Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa 2.3 (Daśaratha initiating the sequence that leads to the great turning point of Ayodhyākāṇḍa)
Royal messenger conventions in Itihāsa literature
Ayodhyākāṇḍa 2.4–2.5 (Rāma’s arrival and ensuing commands)
Anuṣṭup (śloka)
Commanding
Firm cadence; stress on ‘śīghram’ and ‘ānīyatām’
Right action proceeds through orderly command and service: the king initiates the next dharmic step by summoning the worthy heir without delay.
With preparations confirmed, Daśaratha instructs Sumantra to fetch Rāma immediately for the ensuing proceedings.
Rāma’s self-mastery (kṛtātmatā) is highlighted as a qualification for rulership, while Daśaratha shows decisiveness.
