The Discourse of Rukmāṅgada
Prabodhinī Ekādaśī, Kārtika-vrata, and Satya-dharma
नरस्य संचरेत्पापं भूतायां क्षौरकर्मणि । भोजने वासरे विष्णोस्तैले षष्ठ्यां व्यवस्थिते ॥ ६९ ॥
narasya saṃcaretpāpaṃ bhūtāyāṃ kṣaurakarmaṇi | bhojane vāsare viṣṇostaile ṣaṣṭhyāṃ vyavasthite || 69 ||
Sanatkumara (in dialogue with Narada)
Vrata: Ekādaśī (implied by ‘vāsare viṣṇoḥ’ / Viṣṇu’s day)
Primary Rasa: bhayanaka
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It teaches tithi-based discipline (niyama): certain acts—shaving, eating on a Viṣṇu-observed day, and oil-application on Ṣaṣṭhī—are treated as spiritually detrimental, so a devotee avoids them to preserve purity and merit.
By restricting ordinary comforts (food on Viṣṇu’s day, bodily grooming, and oiling), the devotee practices self-restraint and reverence for Viṣṇu’s sacred times—an applied form of bhakti expressed through vrata-observance.
It relies on calendrical reckoning of tithis and observance-days (a practical application aligned with Jyotiṣa-style timekeeping used for dharma and ritual scheduling).
