सूत्राद्या अष्ट चाप्यत्र ञ्यन्ता प्रोक्ता मनीषिभिः । धात्वर्थे प्रातिपदिकाद्वहुलं चेष्टवन्मतम् ॥ ७२ ॥

هنا علَّم الحكماء أيضًا ثماني صيغ اشتقاقية تبدأ بـ«سوترا»، وتُعرَف بصيغ «ñyanta». وإذا كان المعنى هو معنى الجذر الفعلي (الفعل/العملية)، فالمقبول على نطاق واسع—وفق رأي «تشِشْتَفَت»—أن هذا الاستعمال يمكن أن يُشتقّ كذلك من أصلٍ اسميّ.
