एवमेष तथा अहं च द्वावप्यत्यन्तदुःखितौ ।

दृष्टदोषेऽपि विषये ममत्‍वाकृष्टमानसौ ॥

evam eṣa tathāhaṃ ca dvāv apy atyanta-duḥkhitau |

dṛṣṭa-doṣe 'pi viṣaye mamatvākṛṣṭa-mānasau ||

«وهكذا هو وأنا أيضًا—كلانا شديد الشقاء؛ فمع أن العيوب تُرى، تُساق عقولنا بدافع التملّك إلى نفس الأشياء (مواضع التعلّق).»

Seeing defects in an object does not by itself end craving or attachment; the root is ‘mine-ness’ (appropriation). Ethical maturity requires uprooting possessiveness, not merely criticizing the object.
