Adhyaya 77 — Sanjna’s Withdrawal from Surya: The Birth of Yama and Yamuna, and the Emergence of Chhaya
ताडनाय च वै कोपात् पादस्तेन समुद्यतः ।
तस्याः पुनः क्षान्तिमता न तु देहे निपातितः ॥
tāḍanāya ca vai kopāt pādas tena samudyataḥ /
tasyāḥ punaḥ kṣāntimatā na tu dehe nipātitaḥ
وفي غضبه رفع قدمه ليضربها؛ لكنه لضبطه لنفسه لم يُنزلها على جسدها.

Even when provoked, restraint (kṣamā/dama) is praised: the intention to harm arises, but dharma is preserved by not committing the act. Yet the episode also shows that mere threat can still provoke reactive harm (the curse).
Vaṃśānucarita: ethical characterization within a lineage story.
The ‘raised but unfallen foot’ symbolizes anger arrested at the threshold—saṃskāra checked by viveka—yet the world still reacts to the vibration of hostility.
