Damayantī’s Crisis Plan and Vārṣṇeya’s Departure
iti śrīmahābhārate vanaparvaṇi nalopākhyānaparvaṇi damayantīsvayaṃvare saptapañcāśattamo 'dhyāyaḥ
As a colophon, this line primarily marks closure and context: it situates the narrative within the Mahābhārata’s layered structure (parva → upākhyāna → episode). Ethically, it underscores that the Damayantī–Nala story is presented as an instructive exemplar within the forest-book setting, where choices (especially in marriage and dharma) carry enduring consequences.
This is the formal end-marker of the chapter: Bṛhadaśva’s narration reaches the conclusion of the fifty-seventh chapter, identified as part of the Nalopākhyāna and specifically connected with Damayantī’s svayaṃvara episode.
