Dhṛtarāṣṭra and Sañjaya on Arjuna’s Indraloka report and the political consequences
sīdhupānena cālpena tuṣṭyātha madanena ca | vilāsanaiś ca vividhaiḥ prekṣaṇīyatarābhavat ||
The verse highlights how mild intoxication, contentment, and desire—combined with playful indulgences—can intensify outward attractiveness. Ethically, it gestures to the seductive power of pleasure and intoxication, which may charm the senses while potentially weakening restraint (saṃyama) and discernment.
The narrator describes a woman (implied by the feminine predicates) becoming especially pleasing to look at due to light drinking of sweet liquor and engagement in various amusements, with desire and satisfaction present—an atmosphere of sensual, leisurely enjoyment being depicted.
