Rāvaṇa–Mārīca Dialogue and the Decoy-Deer Prelude to Sītā’s Abduction
तस्मात् त्वमपि कौन्तेय न शोकं कर्तुमहसि । राज्यात् स्फीतात् परिगभ्रष्टसतपसा तदवाप्स्यसि,कुन्तीनन्दन! इसलिये तुम भी समृद्धिशाली राज्यसे भ्रष्ट होनेके कारण शोक न करो; तपस्याद्वारा तुम उसे प्राप्त कर लोगे
tasmāt tvam api kaunteya na śokaṃ kartum arhasi | rājyāt sphītāt paribhraṣṭas tapasa tad avāpsyasi, kuntīnandana ||
فلذلك، يا ابنَ كونتي، لا يليق بك أن تستسلم للحزن. وإن كنت قد أُقصيت عن مُلكٍ رغيد، فإنك ستسترده بالتَّبَس (الزهد والرياضة) وبالجهد المنضبط.
व्यास उवाच
Do not be ruled by grief over lost power; channel the setback into tapas—disciplined endurance and righteous effort—through which what is lost can be regained in due time.
Vyāsa addresses the Pāṇḍava (Kaunteya/Kuntīnandana), consoling him after the loss of a flourishing kingdom and assuring him that through austerity and steadfast discipline he will recover his sovereignty.
