अनुक्रोशादधर्म च जयेद् धर्ममवेक्षया । आयत्या च जयेदाशामर्थ संगविवर्जनात्,अधर्मको दयासे और धर्मको विचारपूर्वक पालन करनेसे जीते। भविष्यका विचार करके आशापर और आसत्तिके त्यागसे अर्थपर विजय प्राप्त करे
anukrośād adharmaṃ ca jayed dharmam avekṣayā | āyatyā ca jayed āśām artha-saṅga-vivarjanāt ||
قال بهيشما: بالرحمة ينبغي أن يُغلَب حتى الميلُ إلى اللاأخلاق، وباستحضار الدارما يُستَقام على الحق ويُنتَصر له. وبالنظر إلى ما يأتي، ينبغي قهرُ الأملِ الجارفِ والشهوة؛ وبترك التعلّق والتشبّث بالمال تُنال السيادة على المقاصد المادية.
भीष्म उवाच
Cultivate compassion and keep dharma as the guiding standard; with foresight, restrain hope-driven craving and relinquish attachment to wealth, thereby gaining inner mastery over unrighteous impulses and material obsession.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on righteous living after the war. Here he offers a concise ethical discipline: compassion and dharma-checking to defeat adharma, and future-minded detachment to prevent wealth and desire from binding the mind.
