दुर्योधनस्य बलिवर्णनम् — Duryodhana’s Description of Tribute at the Rājasūya
अप्रह्ृष्टेन मनसा राजसूये महाक्रतौ । प्रेक्ष्य तामद्भुतामृद्धि जगाम गजसाह्दयम्
Vaiśampāyana uvāca: aprahṛṣṭena manasā rājasūye mahākratau | prekṣya tām adbhutām ṛddhiṁ jagāma gajasāhṛdayam, rājan |
قال فَيْشَمْبايَنَة: وبقلبٍ لا يعرف الفرح، في القربان العظيم للرّاجَسُويَة، إن دُريودَهَنَة—بعد أن عاين تلك الثروة العجيبة—مضى إلى هَسْتِينابُورَة، يا أيها الملك، وقلبه مثقل بالحسد والمهانة.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how envy and wounded pride arise from comparing oneself with others’ success; such inner agitation undermines ethical judgment and inclines a ruler away from dharma.
During Yudhiṣṭhira’s Rājasūya, Duryodhana sees the extraordinary prosperity and splendor of the Pāṇḍavas; feeling displeased and burdened at heart, he leaves and goes back toward Hastināpura.
