अध्याय १: उत्पात-दर्शनम् तथा वृष्णि-विनाश-श्रवणम्

Omens Observed and the Hearing of the Vṛṣṇi Destruction

परस्परं समासाद्य ब्रह्मदण्डबलात्‌ कृतान्‌ । वृष्णीन्‌ विनष्टांस्ते श्रुत्वा व्यथिता: पाण्डवाभवन्‌,ब्राह्मणोंक शापके बलसे विवश हो आपसमें लड़-भिड़कर सारे वृष्णिवंशी विनष्ट हो गये। यह बात सुनकर पाण्डवोंको बड़ी वेदना हुई। भगवान्‌ श्रीकृष्णका वध तो समुद्रको सोख लेनेके समान असम्भव था; अतः उन वीरोंने भगवान्‌ श्रीकृष्णके विनाशकी बातपर विश्वास नहीं किया

parasparaṃ samāsādya brahmadaṇḍabalāt kṛtān | vṛṣṇīn vinaṣṭāṃs te śrutvā vyathitāḥ pāṇḍavābhavan ||

قال فايشَمبايانا: إذ سُيِّروا بقوة عصا العقاب للبراهمن—أي بسطوة اللعنة التي لا تُقاوَم—تواجهوا واقتتلوا، فهلك آل فِرِشْنِي. فلما بلغ ذلك الباندافا اعتراهم وجعٌ عظيم، لأن سقوط شري كريشنا بدا لهم مستحيلاً كاستحلاب البحر حتى يجفّ؛ لذلك لم يَسْهُل على أولئك الأبطال أن يصدّقوا خبر فنائه.
