Alāyudha’s Resolve to Confront Bhīma
diṣṭyā vardhasi rājendra hataśatrur narottama | diṣṭyā nistīrṇavāṁś caiva pratijñām anujas tava ||
The verse highlights the ethical weight of a pratijñā (solemn vow): success is praised not merely as victory in war but as steadfast completion of one’s pledged duty, while also acknowledging the role of diṣṭi (destiny/fortune) in outcomes.
Sañjaya reports to the king that matters have turned favorably: an enemy has been slain and the king’s younger brother has successfully carried out and completed his vow, implying a significant turning point in the war report.
