Nakula–Śakuni Duel and the Night Battle; Śikhaṇḍin–Kṛpa Engagement
evam uttama-karmāṇau kuru-vṛṣṇi-yaśaḥ-karau
The verse praises exemplary action: conduct that is ‘uttama’ (excellent) is measured not only by prowess but by how it upholds and elevates collective honor and reputation—especially of one’s lineage and community—within the moral pressures of war.
Sañjaya, narrating events of the Drona Parva, sums up the actions of two outstanding figures (implied by the dual forms) as deeds that brought glory to both the Kuru and Vṛṣṇi lines, highlighting their distinguished performance amid the conflict.
