Chapter 137: Yuyudhāna (Sātyaki) Slays Somadatta; Yudhiṣṭhira Redirected from Droṇa

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores the epic theme that moral and martial force, once fully unleashed in a dharmic cause, can appear unstoppable; it also shows how fear and partiality distort judgment—Dhṛtarāṣṭra recognizes Bhīma’s might yet remains bound to his side’s choices, highlighting the ethical cost of attachment and denial.

Dhṛtarāṣṭra reacts to reports from the battlefield by declaring Bhīma unconquerable: Bhīma has defeated Karṇa (likened to Indra in prowess) and has even broken into the Kaurava host after overpowering Droṇa, signaling a severe crisis for Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s army.
