अध्याय १६ — शङ्कर-उमा-वरदानम् तथा तण्डि-स्तुतिः (Śaṅkara–Umā Boon-Granting and Taṇḍi’s Hymn)

दशनामसहस््राणि देवेष्वाह पितामह: । शर्वस्य शास्त्रेषु तथा दशनामशतानि च,पितामह ब्रह्माने पूर्वकालमें देवताओंके निकट महादेवजीके दस हजार नाम बताये थे और शास्‍्त्रोंमें भी उनके सहस्र नाम वर्णित हैं

daśanāmasahasrāṇi deveṣv āha pitāmahaḥ | śarvasya śāstreṣu tathā daśanāmaśatāni ca ||

قال فايُو: «في الأزمنة السالفة أعلن الجدُّ الأكبر (براهما) للآلهة عشرةَ آلافِ اسمٍ لشارفا (شيفا). وكذلك تسجّل الكتبُ المقدسة مئاتٍ من أسمائه.» وتُبرز هذه العبارة أن الإله يُتقرَّب إليه بكثرة الألقاب، وأن الذِّكر الموقَّر للاسم (nāma) طريقُ عبادةٍ مُجازٌ ومسنودٌ بالتقليد.
