मांसपरिवर्जन-प्रशंसा (Praise of Abstention from Meat) / Ethics of Ahiṃsā in Diet and Rite

द्विजेभ्यो वेदवृद्धेभ्य: प्रयतः सुसमाहित: । तेनापोहति धर्मात्मन्‌ दुष्कृतं कर्म पाण्डव,धर्मात्मा पाण्डुनन्दन! जो क्षत्रिय ब्राह्मणके धनका अपहरण न करके न्यायपूर्वक प्रजाका पालन करते हुए अपने बाहुबलसे प्राप्त किया हुआ अन्न वेदवेत्ता ब्राह्मणोंको भलीभाँति शुद्ध एवं समाहित चित्तसे दान करता है, वह उस अन्न-दानके प्रभावसे अपने पूर्वकृत पापोंका नाश कर डालता है

yudhiṣṭhira uvāca |

dvijebhyo vedavṛddhebhyaḥ prayataḥ susamāhitaḥ |

tenāpohati dharmātman duṣkṛtaṃ karma pāṇḍava ||

قال يودهيشثيرا: «يا ذا البرّ، يا ابن باندو! إنّ الرجل المنضبط، الجامع لقلبه، إذا قدّم طعامًا اكتسبه بقوة ذراعيه إلى البراهمة العلماء، الشيوخ الراسخين في معرفة الفيدا، فإنّه بذلك يمحو أعماله السيئة. فالعطاء القائم على العدل وحماية الرعية لا على السلب والنهب يصير وسيلةً للتطهير الخُلقي.»
