Yayāti–Indra Dialogue and Aṣṭaka’s Inquiry
devayāny uvāca kim idaṁ vṛjinaṁ subhru kṛtaṁ vai kāmalubdhayā
The verse frames uncontrolled desire (kāma) as a cause of moral lapse (vṛjina). It highlights ethical accountability: actions driven by craving are condemned as sinful and socially disruptive.
Devayānī confronts Śarmiṣṭhā, accusing her of committing a wrongful act under the influence of desire. The line functions as a sharp moral rebuke within their escalating conflict.
