Vasiṣṭhasya śokaḥ, Vipāśā–Śatadrū-nāmākaraṇam, Kalmāṣapādasya bhaya-prasaṅgaḥ (Ādi Parva 167)

संहिताध्ययने युक्तौ गोत्रतश्चापि काश्यपौ । तारणेयौ युक्तरूपीौ ब्राह्मणावृषिसत्तमौ,वे वैदिक संहिताके अध्ययनमें सदा संलग्न रहते थे। उनका गोत्र काश्यप था। वे दोनों ब्राह्मण सूर्यदेवके भक्त, बड़े ही योग्य तथा श्रेष्ठ ऋषि थे

saṃhitādhyayane yuktau gotrataścāpi kāśyapau | tāraṇeyau yukta-rūpau brāhmaṇāv ṛṣi-sattamau ||

كان الاثنان مواظبَين على دراسة سَمهِيتات الفيدا وتلاوتها. وبحسب النَّسَب كانا من غوترا كاشيابا. وكانا يُعرَفان بالتارانييَين، مستقيمين في السلوك والانضباط—براهمةً من أرفع طبقات الرُّؤاة. وتُبرز الآية أنّ «البراهمنية» الحقّة تقوم على دوام التعلّم، ونقاء تقليد السلالة، والتعبّد المنضبط، لا على المكانة المجردة.
