Kalmāṣapāda’s Encounter with Śakti and the Escalation of the Vasiṣṭha–Viśvāmitra Feud (कल्माषपाद–शक्ति प्रसङ्गः)
तस्यां संसक्तमनस: कौमारब्रह्मचारिण: । चिरस्य रेतश्नस्कन्द तदृषिद्रोण आदधे,मुनिवर भरद्वाजने कुमारावस्थासे ही दीर्घकाल-तक ब्रह्मचर्यका पालन किया था। घृताचीमें चित्त आसक्त हो जानेके कारण उनका वीर्य स्खलित हो गया। महर्षिने उस वीर्यको द्रोण (यज्ञकलश)-में रख दिया
tasyāṁ saṁsaktamanasaḥ kaumāra-brahmacāriṇaḥ | cirasya retaḥ skandat tad ṛṣi-droṇa ādadhe ||
كان بهاردفاجا ناسكًا قد طال محافظته على البراهماتشاريا منذ صباه؛ فلما تعلّق قلبُه بغِرْتاتشي انسكبت منيّتُه. فجمعها الرائي بعناية ووضعها في «دْرونا» (وعاء)، فبدأت بذلك الولادةُ العجيبة التي ستأتي. ويؤكد المقطع أن حتى كبار الزهّاد يُمتحنون بالشهوة، وأنه إذا وقعت الزلّة فالمطلوب ضبطٌ ومسؤولية.
ब्राह्मण उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical tension between ascetic discipline (brahmacarya) and the power of desire: even accomplished sages can be shaken, but dharma also demands accountability—one should respond to a lapse with restraint, care, and responsibility rather than denial or harm.
Sage Bharadvāja becomes mentally attached to the apsaras Ghṛtācī; his semen is discharged, and he preserves it by placing it into a droṇa (vessel). This act becomes the narrative basis for the later emergence of Droṇa, linking the vessel (droṇa) with the name and origin story.
