Beginning of the Āstīka Narrative

Kadrū–Vinatā, Aruṇa and Garuḍa Origins

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores ethical discernment: even when a gift or service is offered, one should accept it only in alignment with truth and the precise conditions of one’s vow or duty, rather than acting hastily.

Vāsuki presents his sister to a sage as a form of service/offerings, asking him to accept her; the sage hesitates, suspecting she may not be the correctly named person intended, and therefore does not accept immediately.
