अनुक्रमणिकाध्यायः (Anukramaṇikā Adhyāya) — Invocation, Narrator Frame, and Textual Scope
अभिवाद्य मुनींस्तांस्तु सर्वानेव कृताञ्जलि: । अपृच्छत् स तपोवृद्धि सद्धिश्वैवाभिपूजित:,उम्रश्रवाजीनी पहले हाथ जोड़कर उन सभी मुनियोंकों अभिवादन किया और “आपलोगोंकी तपस्या सुखपूर्वक बढ़ रही है न?” इस प्रकार कुशल-प्रश्न किया। उन सत्पुरुषोंने भी उग्रश्रवाजीका भलीभाँति स्वागत-सत्कार किया
abhivādya munīṁs tāṁs tu sarvān eva kṛtāñjaliḥ | apṛcchat sa tapo-vṛddhiṁ sadbhiś caivābhipūjitaḥ ||
فحيّا أولئك المونِيّين جميعًا بتحية الإجلال ويداه مضمومتان، ثم سأل عن نماء تقشّفهم وعافيتهم: هل تمضي رياضتهم في يسرٍ وطمأنينة. وأما الحكماءُ الأخيار فبدورهم أكرموا أُغراشْرَفَس ورحّبوا به بما يليق من الاحترام.
