काव्यगुणविवेकः

Examination of the Qualities of Poetry

न च वाच्यं गुणो दोषो भाव एव भविष्यति गुणाः श्लेषादयो दोषा गूडार्थाद्याः पृथक्कृताः

na ca vācyaṃ guṇo doṣo bhāva eva bhaviṣyati guṇāḥ śleṣādayo doṣā gūḍārthādyāḥ pṛthakkṛtāḥ

ولا ينبغي أن يُقال إن المعنى المعبَّر عنه مباشرةً (vācya) هو بعينه فضيلة شعرية (guṇa) أو عيب (doṣa)؛ بل يصير bhāva، أي أثرًا جماليًا. فالفضائل مثل śleṣa (التورية/ازدواج المعنى) وما سواها، والعيوب مثل gūḍārtha (غموض المعنى وخفاؤه) وما سواها، يجب تمييزها على حدة.
