FAQs

It teaches Dhanurveda battlefield engineering: defining the madhyabhedī vyūha and specifying where cavalry (hayānīka) and chariot units (rathānīka) should be positioned for a center-breaking tactical objective.

Alongside theology and ritual, the Agni Purana preserves applied statecraft and military science—here, a precise taxonomy of vyūhas and unit placement—showing its role as a compendium of practical knowledge for rulers and commanders.

While primarily technical, the Purāṇic framing treats righteous protection of the realm (when guided by dharma) as a duty; disciplined, rule-based warfare is implied as ethically preferable to chaotic violence.
