FAQs

It classifies key knowledge-systems: the Upavedas (Ayurveda—medicine; Gandharvaveda—music/performing arts; Dhanurveda—martial/archery science) and the Vedāṅgas (Śikṣā, Kalpa, Vyākaraṇa, Nirukta, Jyotiṣa) that support correct Vedic recitation, meaning, ritual performance, and timing.

By cataloging both practical sciences (medicine, martial arts, arts) and technical disciplines (phonetics, ritual codes, grammar, etymology, astral computation), it demonstrates the Agni Purāṇa’s role as a compendium that links religious life with applied knowledge and scholarly tools.

It frames these disciplines as Veda-supporting limbs: mastering them preserves correct mantra pronunciation, accurate ritual action, and auspicious timing—thereby protecting dharma and enhancing the merit (puṇya) and efficacy of Vedic practice.
