Rantideva’s Supreme Charity and the Hastī Lineage
Hastināpura and Pañcāla Origins
अजमीढाद् बृहदिषुस्तस्य पुत्रो बृहद्धनु: । बृहत्कायस्ततस्तस्य पुत्र आसीज्जयद्रथ: ॥ २२ ॥
ajamīḍhād bṛhadiṣus tasya putro bṛhaddhanuḥ bṛhatkāyas tatas tasya putra āsīj jayadrathaḥ
From Ajamīḍha came a son named Bṛhadiṣu, from Bṛhadiṣu came a son named Bṛhaddhanu, from Bṛhaddhanu a son named Bṛhatkāya, and from Bṛhatkāya a son named Jayadratha.
It lists a sequence of descendants in the Bharata dynasty: Ajāmīḍha → Bṛhadiṣu → Bṛhaddhanu → Bṛhatkāya → Jayadratha.
Śukadeva Gosvāmī narrates these dynastic successions to King Parīkṣit as part of the history of the lunar dynasty and the Bharata line.
They cultivate śraddhā by seeing how dharma and devotion are carried through generations, inspiring one to preserve spiritual culture and remember the Lord’s guidance through history.
