Hymn to Varāha and Pṛthivī’s Inquiry
Prelude to the Sanatkumāra Dialogue
प्रत्याख्याता भगवता तेनाप्युक्तमिदं वचः ।। नाहं तारयितुं शक्तः सुष्रोणि व्रज माधवम्
pratyākhyātā bhagavatā tenāpy uktam idaṃ vacaḥ || nāhaṃ tārayituṃ śaktaḥ suśroṇi vraja mādhavam
我被世尊拒绝,他对我说了这句话:“我无力救你;美臀者啊,去归依摩陀婆(Mādhava)。”
Dharaṇī (Pṛthivī) reporting Brahmā’s response
Varaha Avatara Context: {"is_varaha_focus":true,"earth_interaction":"Earth recounts being redirected by Brahmā to Mādhava; interaction is mediated guidance toward the supreme rescuer."}
Bhu Devi Dialogue: {"is_dialogue":true,"speaker_role":"observer","bhu_devi_state":"rejected by an intermediary, yet hopeful due to redirection","key_question":"If Brahmā cannot rescue, will Mādhava alone be the effective refuge for Earth’s deliverance?"}
Mathura Mandala: {"is_mathura_related":false,"krishna_connection":"Mādhava name can resonate with Kṛṣṇa traditions, but the verse’s function is hierarchical theology (Brahmā → Viṣṇu), not Mathurā-mahātmya."}
Dharma Shastra: {"has_dharma_rule":false}
Vrata Mahatmya: {"has_vrata":false}
Cosmic Boar Symbolism: {"has_symbolism":true,"symbolic_interpretation":"The inability of Brahmā to ‘save’ underscores the Vedāntic hierarchy: created intellect/secondary causality cannot finally liberate; only the supreme Lord (Viṣṇu/Mādhava) grants deliverance.","yajna_varaha_imagery":"Not explicit; symbolic ‘intermediary cannot complete the sacrifice’ motif: the ritual/created order points beyond itself to the supreme sacrificer.","vedantic_connection":"Supports īśvara-supremacy and śaraṇāgati: liberation/protection is not a function of limited deities but of the supreme controller of māyā and karma."}
Philosophical Teaching: {"has_teaching":true,"teaching_type":"theological hierarchy / śaraṇāgati","core_concept":"Secondary authorities may guide but cannot ultimately deliver; true rescue requires approaching the supreme.","practical_application":"Accept redirection without resentment; treat limitations of intermediaries as guidance toward the highest remedy (parama-śaraṇa)."}
Subject Matter: ["Cosmology","Ethics","Narrative Transmission"]

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Dharaṇī narrates her audience with Brahmā: she is turned away, and Brahmā gestures toward Mādhava as the only rescuer.","item_prompts":["Brahmā (four-faced) with a gentle but firm dismissive/redirecting gesture","Dharaṇī with disappointed yet receptive expression","directional cue toward Viṣṇu/Mādhava (light path, emblem, or distant throne)","speech-scroll motif indicating quoted words"],"kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural: Brahmā seated on lotus, hand raised in instruction; Dharaṇī slightly bowed; luminous pathway leading to Mādhava symbol (śaṅkha-cakra).","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore: gold-highlighted Brahmā on lotus; Dharaṇī in ornate attire; embossed directional aureole pointing to a distant Viṣṇu emblem.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore: narrative two-plane composition—foreground Brahmā redirecting, background hint of Mādhava’s presence; soft emotional nuance on Dharaṇī.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari: compact court scene with Brahmā on lotus seat; Dharaṇī standing; a painted arrow/path leading to a small Viṣṇu shrine vignette."}
Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"narrative, slightly plaintive","suggested_raga":"Bhairavi","pace":"medium-slow","voice_tone":"storytelling with gentle gravity"}
It shows hierarchical narrative routing—authority is distributed, and resolution is deferred to the figure framed as most competent, a common structural device in Purāṇic compilation.
No geographic site is specified; the verse is concerned with divine interlocutors and authority.
Acknowledging limitations and directing the vulnerable toward effective support is presented as a responsible course of action.
