Rudrākṣa Māhātmya — The Greatness of Rudraksha
यस्याण्गे नास्ति रुद्रा क्षस्त्रिपुण्ड्रं भालपट्टके । मुखे पंचाक्षरं नास्ति तमानय यमालयम्
yasyāṇge nāsti rudrā kṣastripuṇḍraṃ bhālapaṭṭake | mukhe paṃcākṣaraṃ nāsti tamānaya yamālayam
“将那人带至阎摩之所:其身不佩鲁陀罗叉,其额不具圣灰三横纹(Tripuṇḍra),其唇不诵般遮阿克沙利(Pañcākṣarī)——湿婆之五字真言。”

Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga narrative; it is a warning formula: absence of Śaiva insignia and mantra indicates lack of Śiva-sambandha, leaving one under Yama’s jurisdiction.
Significance: Functions as a deterrent (niṣedha-bhaya) to maintain daily Śaiva discipline; emphasizes that neglect of Śiva-mārga keeps the soul within karmic adjudication.
Mantra: नमः शिवाय (implied by ‘पंचाक्षर’)
Type: panchakshara
It asserts that a Śaiva life is recognized by both inner devotion and outer disciplines—Rudrākṣa, Tripuṇḍra (bhasma), and the Pañcākṣarī—signs of surrender to Pati (Śiva) and steady remembrance that loosens pāśa (bondage).
Tripuṇḍra and bhasma are directly tied to Śiva’s worship (especially Liṅga-pūjā), while Rudrākṣa and Pañcākṣara sustain continuous Saguna-bhakti—keeping the devotee oriented to Śiva’s grace in daily conduct, not only at the shrine.
Wear Rudrākṣa, apply Tripuṇḍra with sacred ash on the forehead, and keep the Pañcākṣara “Namaḥ Śivāya” on the tongue through regular japa—especially as a daily vrata and as a Mahāśivarātri discipline.
