Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
It teaches that a Shiva-sadhaka should live by dharma: earn without greed, maintain the body with measured means, and keep enjoyment proportionate—so the mind remains fit for bhakti and steady contemplation of Pati (Shiva).
Linga-worship in the Shiva Purana is supported by inner purity and restraint; moderation in earning and consumption reduces rajas and tamas, making the devotee more receptive to Saguna Shiva’s grace through daily puja, japa, and vrata.
The verse implies regulated living that strengthens sadhana—daily Panchakshara japa (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), simple sattvic conduct, and observances like fasting or restraint on Mahashivratri; it complements practices such as Tripundra and Rudraksha by grounding them in self-control.
