General Description of the Course of Hell / Naraka-gati
कुंभीपाकेषु च तथा तप्ततैलेषु वै मुने । पापिनः कूरकर्म्माणोऽसह्येषु सर्वथा पुनः
kuṃbhīpākeṣu ca tathā taptataileṣu vai mune | pāpinaḥ kūrakarmmāṇo'sahyeṣu sarvathā punaḥ
噢牟尼啊,作恶残酷的罪人,一再被投入名为“俱毗波迦(Kumbhīpāka)”的地狱,又被掷入滚沸热油的大锅之中,尽受难以忍受的酷刑。
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
It emphasizes the Shaiva moral law of karma: cruel actions strengthen pasha (bondage) and lead the soul into severe, repeated suffering, urging compassion and dharmic living as preparation for Shiva’s grace and liberation.
By contrasting the misery born of cruelty with the path of purification, it implicitly directs the devotee toward Saguna Shiva worship (Linga-archana, mantra, and conduct) as a means to cleanse karma and turn the mind toward Pati (Shiva), the liberator.
The practical takeaway is repentance and self-restraint supported by Shaiva sadhana—regular japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namah Shivaya) and disciplined, non-violent conduct—so that cruel tendencies do not ripen into painful karmic results.
