The verse shows that even great tapasvins can be veiled by māyā when desire arises; in Shaiva Siddhanta, Śiva as Pati alone grants clarity and liberation by removing the bonds (pāśa) of kāma and delusion.
It emphasizes dependence on Saguna Shiva’s grace—through Linga worship and remembrance of Śiva—to steady the mind, because personal effort (tapas) without surrender can still be overpowered by māyā and desire.
Practice japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with disciplined brahmacarya and mindfulness; support sādhanā with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as aids to vairāgya and protection from sense-drag.
