Description of the Power/Effects of Śiva’s Māyā
जगत्प्राणोऽपि गर्वेण मोहितश्शिवमायया । कामेन निर्जितो व्यासश्चक्रेऽन्यस्त्रीरतिं पुरा
jagatprāṇo'pi garveṇa mohitaśśivamāyayā | kāmena nirjito vyāsaścakre'nyastrīratiṃ purā
即使是维耶娑——如同世间的生命之息——也曾因傲慢而被湿婆的幻力所迷。为欲望所征服,他在往昔竟堕入对他人妻子的贪恋执著。

It teaches that even great sages can be bound by pāśas like pride and desire when covered by Śiva’s Māyā; liberation arises through humility, discernment, and turning the mind back to Pati (Śiva).
By highlighting the power of Śiva’s Māyā over embodied beings, it points to the need for refuge in Saguna Śiva—often approached through Liṅga worship—so the devotee gains purity, restraint, and grace to transcend kāma.
Cultivate vairāgya and japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with a restrained life; if following Shaiva observance, support it with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as reminders to conquer desire and ego.
