It highlights the Shaiva ideal of humility before realized wisdom: even Vyāsa honors the compassionate, all-knowing guru, showing that reverence and receptivity are prerequisites for liberating knowledge.
By honoring Sanatkumāra as a vessel of divine knowledge, the verse supports the Shiva Purana’s teaching that devotion to Shiva—often approached through Saguna forms like the Liṅga—matures through guidance from the guru and culminates in right understanding.
The practical takeaway is guru-vandana (reverential prostration) and disciplined listening (śravaṇa) to Shaiva teachings; this inner posture complements external Shaiva practices like mantra-japa (e.g., Om Namaḥ Śivāya) when taught by a competent guide.
