Shiva Purana — Rudra Samhita, Shloka 42

गणेश-षण्मुखयोः विवाहविचारः / Deliberation on the Marriages of Gaṇeśa and Ṣaṇmukha

इदं संनिहितं तीर्थं सुलभं धर्मसाधनम् । पुत्रस्य च स्त्रियाश्चैव तीर्थं गेहे सुशोभनम्

idaṃ saṃnihitaṃ tīrthaṃ sulabhaṃ dharmasādhanam | putrasya ca striyāścaiva tīrthaṃ gehe suśobhanam

此圣渡(tīrtha)近在身旁,易于亲近,是成就法(dharma)的善巧方便。对儿子与妻子亦然:此居于家中的 tīrtha,真实带来吉祥,并令家宅增辉。

Significance: Sanctifies gṛha (home) as a dharmic tīrtha when duties to family/elders are fulfilled; promotes sustainable religiosity over costly travel.

Shakti Form: Pārvatī

Role: nurturing

FAQs

It teaches that holiness is not only found in distant pilgrimages; a sanctified home—kept pure and devoted to dharma—functions as a readily available tīrtha that supports spiritual upliftment for the whole family.

By implying that sacred presence can be established ‘near at hand,’ it aligns with keeping Saguna Shiva worship (such as a household Śiva-liṅga or shrine) at home, making daily devotion and purification continuous rather than occasional.

Maintain a home shrine and perform simple daily Shiva-upāsanā—cleanliness, water-offering, lamp, and japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya); such regular practice turns the household space into a living tīrtha.
