Devas (gods) addressing Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Mantra: महेश्वर महाभाग शुभाशुभनिरीक्षक । आप्यायास्मान्हि देवेश कर्तॄन्वै वचनं तव
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
It expresses śaraṇāgati (surrender): the devas acknowledge Śiva as the supreme judge of śubha-aśubha (right and wrong, auspicious and inauspicious) and seek His grace to empower their righteous action—an essential Shaiva Siddhanta attitude where Pati (Śiva) guides and uplifts the soul.
Though not naming the Liṅga directly, it addresses Saguna Śiva—Maheśvara who hears prayers and issues commands. In Liṅga worship, devotees similarly seek Śiva’s anugraha (grace) to purify intention and align action with dharma, trusting His discerning Lordship.
A practical takeaway is daily prayerful surrender before worship—offer actions to Śiva and follow His “vacana” through japa of the Pañcākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), accompanied by Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as reminders to choose śubha conduct and avoid aśubha actions.
