Devas’ Hymn after Tāraka’s Slaying and the Bestowal of Boons upon the Mountains
tvaṃ brahmā sarvadevānāṃ rudrāṇāṃ nīlalohitaḥ | ātmā ca sarvabhūtānāṃ sāṃkhyaiḥ puruṣa ucyase
Sanatkumāra (addressing Lord Śiva as the supreme Pati)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
The verse declares Śiva as the supreme reality who appears as multiple cosmic functions—creator (Brahmā), Rudra-forms (Nīlalohita), and the indwelling Self of all beings—showing that all divinities and souls ultimately depend on Him as Pati, the Lord who grants liberation.
By identifying Śiva as both the transcendent Puruṣa and the immanent Ātman, the verse supports Saguna worship through the Liṅga: devotees approach the formless supreme through a sanctified form, recognizing that the same Śiva pervades all beings while remaining beyond them.
Meditate on Śiva as the Ātman within all beings while japa-ing the Pañcākṣarī ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya"), ideally with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrākṣa as reminders of Śiva’s all-pervading lordship and the aim of mokṣa.
