Viṣṇoḥ Sahasranāma-stotreṇa Śiva-prasādaḥ
Vishnu’s Thousand-Name Hymn and Shiva’s Grace
विष्णुरुवाच । यथेदानीं कृपानाथ क्रियते चान्यतः परा । कार्य्या चैव विशेषेण कृपालुत्वात्त्वया प्रभो
viṣṇuruvāca | yathedānīṃ kṛpānātha kriyate cānyataḥ parā | kāryyā caiva viśeṣeṇa kṛpālutvāttvayā prabho
毗湿奴说道:“慈悲之主啊,正如如今正在施行更高的(救度)事业,也应当在别处同样施行。主宰啊,尤应由你亲自特别成就此事,因为你本身即是慈悲。”
Vishnu
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Sthala Purana: Not a specific jyotirliṅga passage; the verse generalizes Śiva’s compassionate salvific action to be extended ‘elsewhere’ (anyatra) as well.
Significance: General teaching: Śiva’s kṛpā (grace) is the supreme means; seeking it is itself meritorious.
Role: liberating
The verse highlights Shiva’s kripā (grace) as a decisive spiritual power—Viṣṇu appeals to Shiva as the compassionate Lord whose special action removes suffering and supports liberation.
By addressing Shiva as “Prabhu” and “Kṛpānātha,” the verse frames Saguna Shiva (worshipped as the Linga and Jyotirlinga) as the accessible form through whom divine compassion actively operates for devotees.
The practical takeaway is to seek Shiva’s grace through bhakti—regular japa of the Panchakshara (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and Linga worship with a prayer for compassionate intervention and guidance.
