It presents the ideal spiritual foundation for a devotee: purity of conduct, disciplined Vedic learning, and faithful performance of sacred duties—qualities that, when oriented toward Shiva, mature into devotion and eligibility for Shiva’s grace.
In the Kotirudra context (Jyotirlinga narratives), such Vedic discipline supports Saguna Shiva worship—approaching Shiva through prescribed rites, sanctity, and reverence—often culminating in Linga devotion at holy tīrthas.
Regular scriptural recitation (svādhyāya) and performance of Vedic rites are emphasized; in a Shaiva frame this is naturally complemented by daily Shiva-pūjā, japa of the Panchākṣarī (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), and observances like bhasma/tripuṇḍra when appropriate.
