Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
Significance: Puṣpāñjali and mantra-recitation ‘in sequence’ exemplify disciplined bhakti where the paśu approaches Pati with reverence and ordered speech (mantra), opening to grace.
Mantra: yo devānām…
Type: gayatri
Role: teaching
Offering: pushpa
It teaches that Śiva-worship is completed by inner contemplation (dhyāna) joined to disciplined mantra-japa, showing that devotion must become steady remembrance of Pati (Śiva) to loosen the bonds (pāśa) of the soul (paśu).
The act of standing with a flower añjali is an outward (saguṇa) offering, while meditating on Mahādeva and chanting the mantra is the inward worship that gives life to the external rite—typical of Shiva Purana puja where form-based devotion leads the mind to Śiva’s supreme reality.
Perform añjali with flowers, stand reverently, meditate on Mahādeva, and do mantra-japa in proper order (krama); the verse specifically points to a mantra beginning “yo devānām…”, indicating sequential recitation as part of the prescribed Śiva-pūjā.
