Sita’s Lament and Prophecy of Lanka’s Ruin
नूनं ममैव शोकेन स वीरो लक्ष्मणाग्रजः।।।।देवलोकमितो यातस्त्यक्त्वा देहं महीतले।
nūnaṃ mamaiva śokena sa vīro lakṣmaṇāgrajaḥ |
devalokam ito yātas tyaktvā dehaṃ mahītale ||
想必那位英雄——罗什曼那的兄长——因我之悲恸而离开此世,将身躯弃于大地,前往诸天之界。
"Having fallen under the clutches of the dreadful demonesses and threatened by them, I am so full of woes and worries that I don't want to live.
The verse underscores the dharmic bond of spouse and protector: separation through injustice produces profound suffering, showing why adharma (abduction, coercion) is a grave moral rupture.
Sītā, lacking news of rescue, fears Rāma may have died from grief after failing to find her.
Rāma’s depth of love and commitment (as Sītā imagines it), revealing the seriousness with which dharmic relationships are held.
