Hanuman’s Circuit of Ravana’s Palace and the Crisis of Deliberation
कृतज्ञस्सत्यसन्धश्च सुग्रीवः प्लवगाधिपः।।।।रामं तथा गतं दृष्ट्वा ततस्त्यक्ष्यति जीवितम्।
kṛtajñaḥ satyasandhaś ca sugrīvaḥ plavagādhipaḥ | rāmaṁ tathā gataṁ dṛṣṭvā tatastyakṣyati jīvitam ||
婆利婆,婆那罗之主,知恩而守誓;见罗摩如此逝去,便将舍弃生命。
"On seeing that Rama has ended his life, the grateful and truthful monkey leader,Sugriva will give up his life.
Gratitude and truth-keeping are dharmic pillars: Sugrīva is portrayed as one who repays help and stands by his pledged alliance.
Hanumān foresees that Rāma’s death would cause Sugrīva, bound by loyalty and obligation, to renounce life.
